Indulge in the rich, swirling layers of our Super easy Chocolate Babka! With simple ingredients and a straightforward method, this sweet bread is perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup chocolate spread (such as Nutella)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed.
  2. Step 2: Add the softened butter, warmed milk, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Step 3: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Step 4: Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the chocolate spread evenly over the surface of the dough.
  5. Step 5: Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log in half lengthwise to expose the layers of chocolate. Twist the two halves together and place them in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Step 6: Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and let it rise again for about 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the babka for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Allow it to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

  • For optimal freshness, store your chocolate babka in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate it for up to a week.
  • To reheat, simply slice the babka and warm it in a toaster oven or microwave for about 10-15 seconds to bring back its gooey chocolate goodness.
  • Serve slices of the babka with a dusting of powdered sugar on top or alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
  • For best results, ensure your milk is warmed but not hot when mixing with the butter and eggs; this helps activate the yeast properly and creates a perfectly fluffy texture.
