Ingredients
Scale
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup whole milk, warmed
2 large eggs
1 cup chocolate spread (such as Nutella)
Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 2: Add the softened butter, warmed milk, and eggs to the dry ingredients. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
Step 3: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 4: Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the chocolate spread evenly over the surface of the dough.
Step 5: Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log in half lengthwise to expose the layers of chocolate. Twist the two halves together and place them in a greased loaf pan.
Step 6: Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and let it rise again for about 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the babka for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Allow it to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
For optimal freshness, store your chocolate babka in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate it for up to a week.
To reheat, simply slice the babka and warm it in a toaster oven or microwave for about 10-15 seconds to bring back its gooey chocolate goodness.
Serve slices of the babka with a dusting of powdered sugar on top or alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
For best results, ensure your milk is warmed but not hot when mixing with the butter and eggs; this helps activate the yeast properly and creates a perfectly fluffy texture.
