Elevate your side dish! Sweet maple glaze meets smoky turkey turkey bacon and tender-crisp sautéed carrots. A delightful flavor trio. Full instructions and nutritional info included.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb medium carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch thick coins
  • 6 slices turkey turkey bacon, diced
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Dice the turkey beef bacon into 1/2-inch pieces. Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the turkey beef bacon and cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the cooked beef bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain, leaving any rendered fat in the pan.
  2. Step 2: Add the 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter to the skillet with any rendered turkey bacon fat. Heat over medium heat. Add the sliced carrots to the pan and sauté for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and brown slightly.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the remaining 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter, maple syrup, salt, black pepper, and fresh thyme (if using) into the skillet with the carrots. Cook for another 3-5 minutes, stirring constantly, allowing the sauce to thicken and coat the carrots in a beautiful glaze.
  4. Step 4: Return the cooked, crispy turkey beef bacon to the skillet with the glazed carrots. Toss everything together gently until the beef bacon is well combined and heated through. Serve immediately as a side dish.

Notes

  • Keep any delicious leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; for best turkey beef bacon crispness, consider storing it separately and adding back just before reheating.
  • To revive these glazed carrots, gently warm them in a skillet over medium-low heat until heated through, allowing the sauce to re-melt; a microwave works for speed, though the turkey bacon may lose some of its initial crispness.
  • This delightful side dish is fantastic alongside roasted chicken or chicken breast, and even makes a sweet and savory addition to a hearty breakfast or holiday spread.
  • For perfectly tender, evenly coated carrots, ensure you slice them uniformly to 1/2-inch thick coins and stir constantly in Step 3 as the maple glaze thickens to prevent burning and achieve that beautiful sheen.
