Indulge in Crispy, Creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu, where tender chicken envelops savory turkey turkey ham and melted Swiss cheese. Includes complete cooking instructions and detailed nutritional breakdown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices of turkey ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). While the oven is heating, prepare the chicken by placing each breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and gently pounding them to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  2. Step 2: Season both sides of the flattened chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Place a slice of turkey ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each breast, then roll them up tightly, securing with toothpicks if necessary.
  3. Step 3: Set up a breading station by placing the flour in one shallow bowl, the beaten eggs in another, and the breadcrumbs in a third bowl. Dredge each rolled chicken breast first in flour, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Step 4: In a large skillet, heat cooking oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken rolls and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  5. Step 5: Transfer the browned chicken cordon bleu to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C). Remove from the oven, let it rest for a few minutes, then serve hot.

Notes

  • For optimal freshness, store leftover chicken cordon bleu in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • When reheating, place the chicken in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes to restore its crispiness, rather than using a microwave which can make it soggy.
  • Serve your crispy, creamy chicken cordon bleu alongside a light salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal that complements the richness of the dish.
  • For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding fresh herbs like thyme or parsley to the breadcrumb mixture before coating the chicken.
